Rugby league activity in Saudi Arabia commenced in 2008, in the port city of Jeddah, when the three principal internatinoal school organised a competition.

The Saudi Arabian Rugby League Association, formed by four Jeddah clubs on 2 May 2013, received Observer status of the RLEF in June 2013. Full Membership is open to clubs which have served one year probation as an Associate Member. The latter have no voting rights in the HRLF assembly.

The seven-strong board of directors has a one-year mandate
