SOUTH AFRICA v ENGLISH LIONS
The English Lions won the second and final Test of their African tour after facing stiff competition from the South African national team at Johennesburg's Pirates Club.
South Africa were leading early and it wasn't until Fran King's 66th minute try that the visitors were safe, with a three-score lead. Chris Stephenson made King's hat-trick try, attacking down the short side for the crucial try.
The match opened in a very physical manner, scoreless until King's 11th minute opener, with man-of-the-match Jonny Youds (pictured) kicking the touchline conversion. South Africa pulled level two minutes later through their own star man, Jean Coetzer, whose drop-goal gave the Rhinos the lead for the first time.
Peter Caddy put the Lions, made up of England's best non-contracted players, back in front in the 26th minute but Coetzer pushed South Africa back into the lead with a little chip through, which he collected himself, on the half-hour mark. Caddy scored again to give the Lions a lead they would not relinquish and King's second, on the stroke of half-time, gave the Lions a 22-13 interval lead.
